Forestry investment opportunities arise from Mexican commercial plantation plan

A plan to develop commercial forest plantations in 32 states in Mexico presents excellent investment opportunities for firms established in the country.

The National Forest Agency has put together the Rules of Operation and Assembly in which they outline who can benefit from the 531,697,791 Mexican pesos (£23.7 million) of federal forestry investment available.

The ProTree programme can benefit individuals or organisations that hope to maintain or establish commercial forest plantations in Mexico. The money will go towards insurance, technical assistance and the management of the plantations.

Some 88 per cent of the money available will go towards supporting plantations, while 10 per cent will be spent on the supervision of the projects. The remaining 2 per cent will be spent on operating expenses.

In order to benefit from this generous programme, individuals must be Mexican nationals or organisations legally incorporated in Mexico. Eligible parties must also be owners of the land on which the forest is to be established.
